One Score Ago…

Posted: 20 Dec 2009 07:00 AM PST

The term ’score’ may not be in much use in today’s society, but I decided it best suit an occasion like this one. A score is the number 20. Whether it be 20 years, minutes, or cows, the term can be used to make just about anyone sound fancy.

In this case, I’m using one score ago in the sense of

20 months ago from today, Carter and I were slacking off on the Web whilst compiling a science project (for which we received an A, might I add). We had nothing better to do and more civilized than create a blog – for the purpose of which, was unknown. The decision to create a blog was of complete random, and was not discussed nor appropriately thought out. And yet, something with the intension of nil, became an item with profound, undiscovered excellence.

So simply by the click of a mouse was the treasure of serenity brought upon us. For what else is the purpose of a silly blog that is authored by a group of young writers, but to put a smile unto the face of a stranger, and to bring unknown happiness to the beholder.

A blog like this one, where we – the authors – are given an opportunity to share with the reader the humor found in our own lives, and the unforgiving knowledge of how to convert it to the English language.

But what am I saying? At this point, you’re probably not even following my crazy lingo. We will continue to share with you the humor, and all that we ask in return is for you to

read,
see,
laugh,
respond,
and share.

And we sincerely appreciate that you have for the past 20 months. Whether you be a new viewer, an old fan, or an appreciative parent, we thank you. We will carry on for as long as our lives allow us. Unfortunately, seeing as we’re going in to high-school soon, that may not be long. I just wanted to make you aware that there is always a deadline at some point, a time to finish up what you wanted to do, and carry on with what’s next.

That time isn’t now, and not in the near future, but perhaps sometime of a much later date.

Thank you again, and tell your pet that you love them.

Movie In Review; Julie & Julia

Posted: 19 Dec 2009 05:40 PM PST

As a nice snowy break from life leads before me, nothing better comes to mind than to stay home and watch some movies. First on my list was the true story of Julie Powell.

http://bookpage.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/julie_and_julia.jpg?w=301&h=448

In 1948 Julia Child, an American born French citizen took a liking to the arts of French cuisine, and studied it for six months at the world-famous Cordon Bleu cooking school. In these days, women in France were hardly ever seen in the workplace, and Julia Child was not afraid to be unique, and bash stereotypes. After graduating from Cordon Bleu, Child went on to create a book of compiled recipes, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, directed toward American house-wives interested in simple French cooking.

In 2002, a young women by the name of Julie Powell began a blog. Her mission was to cook her way through the 800-page book in 365 days, and post an entry on her blog about each recipe and meal.

The movie switches between Julia and Julies’ lives, and gives notice that their ordeals are very alike. Maryl Streep plays an excellent Julia Child, seeing as their appearances are quite strikingly similar.

Although Julie occasionally struggles whilst perfecting the art of basic French cuisine, including several meltdowns and a short separation from her husband, she manages to finish every recipe in the book by the end of the year. She ends up with a spread in the New York Times, and later several offers to write a book about her accomplishment. She then writes a book, and such a book is this movie created after.

This movie not only captures the hilarity and genius behind the great Julia Child, but also gives realization that the normal, every-day person can accomplish something incredible by simply creating an idea, and allowing others to follow every moment of it.

Upcoming Movie Sequels and Remakes!

Posted: 19 Dec 2009 10:21 AM PST

Sorry about not posting a Friday Special yesterday, I was watching a movie for the remainder of the night. There’s something about weekends that’s just awesome. Perhaps it’s the lack of reason to go to sleep early, or the sleeping in aspect. Weekends are a time to relax and rewind. To hang out and lay back. To smile and laugh.

I was looking around the Web and found trailers and information about sequels to great movies.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010)

I’m not a big fan of the Twilight series, but I know those who are make up a huge community. This movie is simply a film version of Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. Need I say any more? Here’s an unofficial trailer for it.

Shrek 5; Forever After (2010)

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows; Part 1 (2010)

I’m not a big fan of the Harry Potter series, and I stopped following the movies after the sixth one. The novel, The Deathly Hallows, was so long that the film had to be split into two parts. Here’s the trailer for this upcoming film.

Toys Story 3 (2010)

The previous Toys Stories were great, and I actually still have the original VHS tapes! I used to watch the first two all the time when I was younger, so this one ought to be great. Andy goes to college and the toys fear they will be thrown away. I can’t help but recall the song, You Got a Friend In Me. Here’s the official trailer.

Clash of the Titans [Remake] (2010)

I’m not sure if you can recall, but there was a film made in the 1980’s of this same title. I remember watching it in Language Arts last year. The graphics were so terrible and silly. This story follows the Greek myth of Perseus, son of Zeus. Now that we’re in an age of better computer graphics, this should be a sweet movie!

I, Robot 2 (2012)

I, Robot 2 is still in development, but it is being written and produced by Ronald Moore, the writer and producer of Battlestar Galactica tv series.

National Treasure 3 (2011)

This movie is highly anticipated, as the previous National Treasure (Book of Secrets) ended with the questionable ‘page 47′ mystery. Can’t wait for this one!

I Am Legend Prequel (2011)

This movie is actually a prequel, which means it will depict what happened before the movie I Am Legend. The movie is said to reveal what happens to Neville (Will Smith) before the infected take over New York.

Jurassic Park 4; The Extinction (?)

This movie was said to release in 2009, but production and filming was delayed for an unknown reason. Hopefully this movie will be (for lack of better term) epic. The previous Jurassic Parks were some of the highest grossing films of all time, so this one has to be good.

Mission Impossible 4 (2011)

I’m not quite sure how this one will go down. Mission Impossible 3 was great, but it ended with Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) retiring from being a secret agent.

Spiderman 4 (2011)

The previous Spiderman movie didn’t quite live up to my expectations. This movie depicts an assortment of different comical villains, including The Lizard, The Vulture, Electro, and Black Cat. John Malkovich and Anne Hathaway are set to have roles in this film, along with Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and James Franco.

Batman 3 (?)

The Dark Knight was absolutely fantastic, and stands as the fourth highest grossing film of all time. I remember the entire theater giving it a standing ovation when I saw it on opening night. This sequel has not been worked on, written, or filmed, but Christian Bale (Batman) is signed on for 3 films. Johnny Depp has been rumored to be a possibility for the role of the Riddler, but he has not yet been offered it.

Superman: Man of Steel (2011)

Does anyone remember the movie, Superman Returns, in 2006? It was quite good, and I actually liked it. It was a sequel to the 1987 movie, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. A sequel is set to release in 2011, but filming has not started yet.

Step Up 3-D (2010)

I absolutely loved the first and second Step Up movies. The movies depict a group of freestyle street dancers. The choreography is amazing in both movies, with soundtracks to match. The third one is set to be in 3D, which doesn’t make much sense to me. Hopefully it will sort itself out and make a good film.

Jumper 2 (?)

The first Jumper movie proved to be spectacular, following the super teleporting powers of a misguided David Rise. The movie left a lot of information yet to be discovered, which leaves room for a great sequel.

The Birds [Remake] (2011)

I’m not sure if anyone here is old enough to remember the heart pounding terror in the original Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds In 1963, but a remake of the movie is set to release in the near future. The Birds was a film that gave a shocking look at the mighty power of crazy, vicious birds as they attacked the world. It was revealed in the end that the reason for their insane behavior was due to microwave radiation caused by phone lines. The movie was absolutely gruesome, but is still referred to as the greatest horror film of all time. Alfred Hitchcock still remains the king of suspense, and will forever live in infamy.

Nineteen Eighty-Four [Remake] (2010)

George Orewell’s novel, Nineteen Eighty-Four, was released in 1949, and gave a chilling prediction of the world in 1984. The novel was actually turned into a movie before (ironically released in 1984). A new version of the film is set to release soon, directed by Tim Burton, and written by Michael Gene Sullivan. I find it quite funny how this novel in 1949 predicted the future world in 1984, and the film franchise Back to the Future is set in 1984 and predicts the future world of 2015.

Unfortunately,  I don’t think we’ll be seeing a Back to the Future 4, as Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease after the release of the third installment.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief (2010)

I know this isn’t a sequel or a remake, but I’m positive you guys will want to know about this one. I personally haven’t read any of the Percy Jackson novels, but you guys will be happy to know that the book series it will soon become a series of films. Here’s the official trailer.

Well, that was a look at some upcoming sequels and remakes that I thought were cool. This should give you something to look forward to next year!
