600,000 Hits Image Contest!

Posted: 10 Dec 2009 07:00 AM PST

In case you haven’t noticed, we’re almost at 600,000 hits. We should be hitting it around Friday. The contest will be much like the 500,000 hits contest.

Stakes: You must try to get a screenshot of 600,000 hits (or as close as you can get), and spruce it up to the best of your creativity. Use the above image as an example.

Rules: You may crop the picture and edit it however you like to make it look cool (effects, words, designs). You may not edit the picture to look as though you took the screen shot on exactly 600,000, seeing as this is not a contest of how close you can get.

Prizes: Everyone who enters will have a chance to win. There will be a post with all entries, and visitors may vote for their favorite. The winner will have their blog on the blogroll for two weeks. The first and second runners up will be mentioned in the winner post.

When you complete your image, you may send it to me via the Send Them button below.

We will begin voting at 10 entries. Good luck to everyone, may the most creative win!

Strange Spiral Light Phenomenon In Norway

Posted: 09 Dec 2009 01:28 PM PST

I was looking at Twitter trending topics when I saw that Norway was on the top ten. I did some searching and found out why.

Today during the morning hours from 7am to 8am, a strange spiral light appeared in the Norwegian sky.

The phenomenon was described as

…initially of a green beam of light similar in colour to the aurora with a mysterious rotating spiral at one end. This spiral then got bigger and bigger until it turned into a huge halo in the sky with the green beam extending down to the earth. – Nick Banbury, resident of Hartstad, Norway.

Here’s a video taken by another resident in the final seconds of the spiral.

Theories ranging from a misfired Russian missile, meteor fireball, a type of northern light, a black hole, and even alien activity were all proposed. When I first heard about this, I thought it was a form of the Northern Lights, but the way it moves like a spiral is something new. Most people would say the above image is photoshopped, but thousands of Norwegians witnessed it, and it’s completely real. What do you think this was?
